Planning, Programming & Information Technology
The programme is one of the most essential tools
in any form of contracting. It not only provides the basis for planning
and monitoring work but also, in a dispute, the foundation for demonstrating
the impact of critical events. The degree to which it can be used
depends on the skill of the person preparing it and the level of
detail incorporated.
|
|
Our consultants are supported by our planning and
IT department in the investigation process, developing new approaches
to analyse complex information and devising innovative graphical
presentations which convey the issues comprehensively and with clarity.
Accordingly, our planning and computer specialists are fully involved
from the outset, providing crucial expertise and back-up.

| Contract
Programme Review |
|
The first task is to establish the original basis
for undertaking the project - often referred to as the base programme.
This will be reviewed and, in all probability, will need to be developed
by us. Bar charts, for example, are inappropriate for demonstrating
'cause and effect' and consequently, we will need to produce critical
path networks. The original number of activities may be insufficient
as a basis to relate complex events to the plan and we may need
to expand the programme.
|
| Data
Analysis |
|
Having identified the base programme, our consultants
review the type, quality and quantity of available project records
and decide how best to analyse their impact. Hundreds of documents
relating to, for example, working hours, drawing issues or correspondence,
may need sorting, assessing and scheduling. This may include scanning
the project files into CD format using 'Alphascan'.
|
| Demonstration
of 'Cause and Effect |
|
Once the data is stored into logical formats, our
Planning and IT specialists relate the information to the base programme
in order to demonstrate its impact. The also take account of the
actual progress of events so that their effort is related, as it
must be, to the state of the project at the time.
|
| Graphical
Presentation |
|
When all the processes are complete, we use 'state
of the art' software to produce a well and properly presented document,
in which the salient issues of the narrative are enhanced where
appropriate by clear graphical format.
